On July 20th, 1884, parishioners from Trinity Church in Hoboken gathered with some neighbors from Union Hill and celebrated the first service to establish Grace Church. On May 6th, 1888, another milestone was achieved when the church building was consecrated and dedicated as a place of worship.
The new and vibrant faith community demonstrated its commitment and
missionary zeal when, in April 1914, the Mission of Transfiguration in North Bergen was established by Grace Church. When the time came to celebrate its 50th anniversary, they did so with already burned mortgages of land, and church and rectory buildings, despite the fact that they were not wealthy parishioners. They might not have had earthly riches but they were overflowing in God's grace and love.
This missionary culture was embedded in such a way in the community's DNA that was expanded across time to the coming Christians generation at Grace Church, as we witness when in December 24th, 1962 the first Spanish service was held to open the Church's doors to the emerging Hispanic community and so we continue today as one community worshiping in two languages and many cultures.
What is Grace? Grace is God's gift of unconditional love made known to us in Jesus Christ: Our vision is to be a beacon of light, living by grace as followers of Jesus Christ and giving to you a place to belong, connect your heart with God and become a fully developing follower of Jesus.
We believe that the foundation and final authority for Grace Church is the Bible. We believe eternal life in Heaven is possible only through faith in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins. We believe the Lord continues to be powerfully at work through the people of Grace Church.
Our Parish is part of the Anglican Communion and member of the Episcopal Dioceses of Newark.

The Outreach Committee hosts their semi-annual clothing drives and Garage Sales to help families in need in Hudson County and beyond. Families left the clothing drive with an assortment of coats, clothing, and shoes. Refreshments are served to attendees and volunteers.
The Outreach Committee thanks the volunteers who offer their time, and support and donate to these projects. With your help, Grace Episcopal Church is in a better position to serve people in the community. We currently have six of these events during the year. The Outreach Committee looks forward to hosting more community events in the future. Glory to God!
Feeding and clothing our brothers and sisters in need is the work of the Kingdom of God. This is righteous work.
The Saturday Lunch program has been a blessing for local residents in the neighborhood. We thank our four team leaders for making sure a healthy hot lunch is cooked every week.
We also thank our volunteers, the set-up staff, the clean-up staff and the serving crew, who generously offer their time, support and donate to this much needed mission.
Our VBS programs have always had terrific success. Children between the ages of 5-12 and their families attend the weeklong program in the summer
Our last theme was “ROAR!” Here, kids discovered that God is good even when life gets wild! Kids participated in memorable Bible-learning activities, sang catchy songs, played teamwork-building games, experienced one-of-a-kind Wild Bible Adventures, collected Bible Memory Buddies to remind them of God’s love, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they’ll took home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids learned to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings.
Each day concluded with the Safari Celebration that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned. The adults reported having as much fun as the children.
Sincere thanks to the VBS crew for their dedication and looking for a few more to come aboard. Thanks to God for moving hearts to nourish his little ones.
The program is usually funded with a grant from the Diocese ad numerous bake sales, smoothie sales and donations from church parishioners. Please make a difference in our childrens’ lives as we plant and nurture seeds of faith by your support of the program. Thank you.
This organization addresses homelessness by utilizing the resources and ministries of volunteer congregations like us. Our church committed to hosting two separate weeks.
Congregations provide space in their buildings to serve as temporary homes for homeless families. Guests are at each Host Congregation for a week or two at a time. Guests typically leave the congregation around 7:30a.m. and return about 5:00 p.m. Each night, dinner (prepared offsite by volunteers) is served family style. Guests and volunteers share dinner together. After dinner, volunteers have an opportunity to sit with families and play games, help with homework or carry on conversations.
Each night, adults turn in around 10:00 p.m. (with children at appropriate earlier bedtimes). Volunteers spend the night at the congregation; guests wake up approximately 6:00 a.m., with breakfast served not long afterwards. Each Family Promise affiliate also has a day center, where families can take showers, receive case management and look for housing and jobs. On average, permanent or transitional housing is typically secured for 74% of families in less than nine weeks. In addition to helping families secure housing, Family Promise also provides a number of other services to families, including transportation, financial literacy, workforce development, legal assistance, health and wellness support, graduate support and prevention.
